Pretty bits

Whenever I see my Grandmother she always gives me little gifts and almost always they are related to sewing. I know I may be alone in getting excited over vintage buttons, old seam bindings and the like, but when they are packaged in a vintage Max Factor powder pot, how can I resist? It's a shame modern cosmetics aren't packaged this way anymore. Of these little treasures, I especially love the apple buttons and the little lace motifs - apparently they are meant for handkerchiefs. To add to these pretty things - some pretty flowers. Also a note to say I am going away for the bank holiday weekend so probably won't be posting again until the middle of next week. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Seasonless

I'm not sure how it took me so long to discover Rachel Comey, but SS10 was the first collection of hers I have ever seen. And I love it. Having since looked at earlier collections, I think one of the best things about her clothes is they look quite seasonless. This dress is for spring, but with some wooly tights and a duffel coat it would work for winter too. Although there is still a great deal of snow on the ground it isn't too hard to imagine carefree spring days spent wearing, oh just about every piece of the collection. This check dress is probably my favourite look. Although they've been around for a while, I still can't seem to get enough of checks. I did look around for some similar fabric but couldn't find anything suitable, then after a recent trip to my grandparents, my grandmother gave me the above fabric, which is close to perfect. I think the woven leather sandals and tiny leather satchel bag I have would go pretty nicely with it too.

Good Tidings

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has had an enjoyable festive break, with plenty of delicious food and fun. I have had a busy few days, finishing my Christmas shopping, seeing friends and family and generally enjoying the holiday. As a short post, I thought I would share some of the lovely gifts I have received over the past few days, plus the odd thing I have bought for myself. My next post will be dedicated to what has to be my best vintage find ever I think. But that can wait for now.








A lovely tiny black leather vintage bag with a beautiful silver clasp, a few cards of antique buttons, and a pair of black flats - I finally found the ideal pair in the Office sale, they remind me of old fashioned tap shoes.
